Green Policy

Minnesota Bed and Breakfast Association, our professional organization, voted to develop a model Green Policy for Inns to consider adopting. Meanwhile each Inn was asked to share their existing efforts to honor our Mother Earth with what we have in place right now.

At Historic Heights, we:

  • Used close to 100 gallons of paint during the renovation. We chose latex paint thereby being able to clean the cans to dispose of and take unused paint to the county hazardous waste facility.
  • Installed additional insulation and energy efficient windows to reduce heat use.
  • Limit the use of bottled water, instead using filtered water and offering the same to our guest.
  • Avoid use of Styrofoam products.
  • Recycle aluminum cans, glass and plastic containers, boxboard, aluminum foil, newspapers, mail waste, magazines, batteries and plastic bags. We look to buy products in containers made from recycled products without excess packaging.
  • Utilize the practice of grass cycling, leaving grass clippings on the lawn.
  • Replace light bulbs as needed with fluorescent energy efficient bulbs and take worn out bulbs to city recycling center.
  • Our bathroom paper products are not cuddly soft and fluffy, but instead are high quality biodegradable and cost just slightly more than the soft and fluffy paper.

In addition, the tone of our Inn is one of respect. We respect you, our guests, first of all but also talk about the importance of respecting each other, the environment, the property, neighborhood and ourselves. In that way we can live in harmony and always be open to adopting new and better ways to present our home.

We seek your thoughts on this important subject. Just let us know.
